Chipper Jones was born on April 24, 1972, in DeLand, Florida. He played high school baseball at Bolles High School then bypassed college to go straight to playing professionally. Jones was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Braves in 1990. After spending three years in the minor leagues, Jones made his first major league appearance in 1993, playing in a total of eight games that year and collecting two hits in three at bats. Jones missed the entire 1994 season due to a torn ACL, but he returned in a big way in 1995 by hitting 23 home runs, driving in 86 RBIs, and helping the Braves capture a World Series title.
